Dr. of Gynecology

• Gynecology is a challenging profession. These doctors are responsible for women’s health and, in some cases, their very lives. The ability to effectively communicate with patients and medical staffers is vital. Gynecologists must project confidence and competency. They may have to work long hours, and are sometimes called upon in emergencies
• Because part of the job is performing surgery, excellent eye-hand coordination and attention to detail are essential. A surgeon must be capable of maintaining focus while standing for long periods of time
• Dr. of Gynecology
• Must be licensed to practice
• Good health and fitness
• Excellent teamwork skills and Communication skills

Midwife

• A qualification in midwifery is essential. This can be gained by undertaking a three to four-year diploma or degree course. Graduates with degrees or diplomas in any subject can apply for midwifery training, although those with life, health, biological or social sciences qualifications may be preferred
• Candidates who are already registered nurses can qualify as midwives via an 18-month course. Previous relevant experience is not essential, but any gained caring for, or working with people can be helpful
• Good health and fitness
• Excellent teamwork skills and Communication skills
• Interpersonal skills
• Good command of spoken and written English
• Computer: Ms. Word and Excel, Email

Dr. of Gynecology

• Interview patients to understand their complaints and symptoms
• Study patients’ medical histories and consult with other doctors
• Provide consultation, care, and treatment for women before, during, and after their pregnancies
• Deliver babies by employing the necessary methods to protect the health of the mother and child
• Perform examinations to diagnose diseases and disorders
• Treat diseases in organs and other parts of the body
• When surgery is warranted, advise the patient of the procedure’s benefits and risks
• Conduct operations to treat illness or remove cancerous tissues
• Prescribe medication and therapy, and make referrals to other medical professionals
• Coordinate nurses, assistants, anesthesiologists, and specialists required for surgical procedures
• If operating a private practice, hire and manage medical and administrative staff
• Maintain patient records and file reports

Midwife

• Examining and monitoring pregnant women
• Assessing care requirements/writing care plans
• Undertaking antenatal care in hospitals, homes and GP practices
• Carrying out screening tests
• Providing information, emotional support and reassurance to women and their partners
• Taking patient samples, pulses, temperatures and blood pressures
• Caring for and assisting women in labour
• Monitoring and administering medication, injections and intravenous infusions during labour
• Monitoring the foetus during labour
• Advising about and supporting parents in the daily care of their newborn babies
• Helping parents to cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth and neonatal death
• Writing records
• Tutoring student midwives
