Better Factories Cambodia (BFC) is a programme of the International Labour Organization that works to improve garment and footwear factory conditions and advance workers’ welfare. BFC has two main functions; monitoring and reporting on factory standards in accordance with national labour law and international labour standards, and delivering training modules and advisory services to workers and management.

In 2012, BFC started an initiative entitled “Experts by Experience” (EBE) as part of BFC’s response to incidents of group ‘faintings’ in Cambodian factories. Through the program, a small group of workers act as a focus group for BFC, and also as ambassadors for the garment industry.  BFC is seeking a full-time consultant to assist with the following tasks:

• LANGUAGES
• Good command of written and spoken Khmer
• Chinese or Korean language skills would be an advantage, as would prior experience with the
• Cambodian garment industry
• COMPETENCIES
• BFC seeks a dynamic consultant who is eager to work closely and respectfully with this group of factory workers, and with BFC staff. This would be an ideal entry-level position for someone with a high level of English language fluency, the ability to type in Khmer, excellent organizational skills, a friendly demeanor and computer literacy.

• Under the overall guidance of the project Chief Technical Advisor, the consultant will undertake the duties mentioned below
• Lead the implementation of the Experts by Experience initiative, working closely with BFC’s Communications Assistant, a focal group of workers and other relevant organizations;
• Arrange trainings for the EbEs provided by external collaborators;
• Contact factories to promote, get permission for and organize EbE speaker events;
• Assist in the drafting of promotional materials where relevant;
• Make contracts with external collaborators;
• Translate documents from English to Khmer and vice versa;
• Participate in discussions on how to improve the project;
• Help to identify new members for the group;
• Capture individual worker stories for communications materials;
• Perform other tasks as assigned by Chief Technical Advisor
